7-Day Mount Kilimanjaro Climb via the Lemosho Route. The trek begins at Lemosho Gate and follows the scenic Lemosho trail across the Shira Plateau before joining the southern circuit of Kilimanjaro. The route offers excellent acclimatization through the “climb high, sleep low” principle before the summit attempt from Barafu Camp. After reaching Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the descent follows the Mweka Route back to Moshi.

About This Tour
The Lemosho Route is widely considered to be the best route on Mount Kilimanjaro. Not too long ago, there were only two main routes used to climb Kilimanjaro – the Marangu (Coca Cola) route and the Machame (Whiskey) route. But as Tanzania’s tourism industry flourished, the Kilimanjaro park authority created more trails to African’s highest peak. Lemosho, a relatively new route, is preferred by reputable operators due to its beauty, remoteness and success rate. In short, it maximizes the chances that a climber will reach the summit, and enjoy the experience overall. The Lemosho route can be done in as little as six days (five nights) on the mountain. However, it is ideally tackled over eight days (seven nights) for a better altitude acclimatization schedule. The trek begins at Londorossi Gate, located in the western base of mountain, within its lush, fertile rainforest. The route heads across the Shira Plateau, before circling along the southern circuit halfway around the mountain, exposing the climber to great views from all angles. The approach to the summit is made from the east, and the descent follows the Mweka trail.
Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 1: Lemosho Gate – Mti Mkubwa Camp
After breakfast, drive to Lemosho Gate for registration and a trek briefing. Begin hiking through the lush rainforest, home to colobus monkeys and diverse birdlife. Reach Mti Mkubwa (Big Tree) Camp for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Mti Mkubwa Camp – Shira 2 Camp
Leave the rainforest behind and climb through heath and moorland vegetation onto the spectacular Shira Plateau. Enjoy panoramic views of Kibo Peak before arriving at Shira 2 Camp for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Shira 2 Camp – Lava Tower – Barranco Camp
Ascend to Lava Tower for acclimatization before descending to Barranco Camp. This "climb high, sleep low" strategy greatly improves acclimatization while offering spectacular scenery.
Day 4: Barranco Camp – Karanga Camp
Climb the famous Barranco Wall before crossing ridges and valleys to Karanga Camp. The shorter trekking day allows extra time for rest and altitude acclimatization.
Day 5: Karanga Camp – Barafu Camp
Continue through alpine desert terrain to Barafu Camp, the base camp for your summit attempt. After an early dinner, rest and prepare your equipment for the midnight ascent.
Day 6: Barafu Camp – Uhuru Peak – Mweka Camp
Begin your summit attempt around midnight, reaching Stella Point before continuing to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. After celebrating your achievement, descend to Barafu Camp briefly and continue to Mweka Camp for overnight.
Day 7: Mweka Camp – Mweka Gate – Moshi
Descend through the rainforest to Mweka Gate, where you will receive your summit certificate. Meet your driver for the transfer back to your hotel in Moshi to celebrate your successful Kilimanjaro climb.
